Books: Friend or Foe?

A lot of people, especially highs school students, dislike reading books for school. Some kids enjoy reading outside of school and for fun.

It can be easy to fall into a book, if you like what’s happening in the book. I have caught myself reading several chapters at a time, sometimes finishing a book in a day, it just depends on how much you enjoy the book.

I have found myself also, struggling to get into a book and having trouble reading. Mostly for school, but sometimes you get a book from the library and have trouble starting it and following through. There are also times where the beginning of the book is really boring but past that point it really surprises you. One of those books for me was Life Of Pi by Yann Martel. The beginning was a little boring, but once I read the first few chapters, the book got was more intense and exciting. I then enjoyed reading the book and could not put it down.

Usually assigned books are harder to read for the fact that we have to read it on a timed schedule and we can’t go at our own pace. When you are able to read at your own pace, and do not have to make sure you are at a certain chapter by a date, then the material becomes more enjoyable.

Adults will always say you need to read it helps with your brain, while they are right, it doesn’t mean you have to read chapter books. Little books, poems, or comics are good because you are a at least reading.
