Internet Insider - $2.2 Million Raised for Charity by Playing Videogames

About two days ago, Games Done Quick finished up their Awesome Games Done Quick 2017 event. In only one week, the marathon managed to raise a grand total $2, 213,397 (and still counting) for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. This destroyed the previous record, that was set two years ago and raised $1.576 million dollars. Awesome Games Done Quick or AGDQ for short is one of two annual speedrun charity marathons that are held in the United States. This charity plays all different kinds of games, new and old, such as Doom, Castlevania, Super Mario Bros and Dark Souls 3.

Unlike other gaming events and marathons, this one has a different goal, which is to beat the games as fast as possible and to complete a certain task such as, to defeat all bosses. There have been multiple charities that AGDQ has raised money for, with the two most common being the aforementioned Prevent Cancer Foundation and Doctors Without Borders. Since 2010, these charity marathons have raised a grand total of $10 million dollars.
I believe this is a perfect example of the good that the gaming community can do, when they stop bickering with each other and work towards the common goal of making the world a better place. After the huge success of this event, I already have high hopes for the next marathon called Summer Games Done Quick.
