JK Rowling and Harry Potter

Harry Potter? I’ve heard of him before! The book series is really popular along with movies.

J.K. Rowling is the famous writer of the Harry Potter series. In case you didn’t know J.K. Rowling is actually a female. Here are just a few facts about her;

  • J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter share the same birthday: July 31st
  • She wrote her initial Harry Potter ideas on a napkin while on a train to London.
  • The original Harry Potter manuscript was rejected by 12 publishing houses before Bloomsbury picked it up.
  • J.K. Rowling was awarded an Order of the British Empire in 2001.
  • She filled five notebook pages with made up “Q” words before she came up with “Quidditch.”
  • Her real name is Joanne Rowling. She has no middle name and instead borrowed the “K” from her grandmother, Kathleen.
  • J.K. Rowling went from being unemployed to becoming a multi-millionaire in five years.
  • She published her first book for adults. The Casual Vacancy, in 2012.
  • In 2013 she released a crime novel under the pen name “Robert Galbraith.”
  • JK Rowling’s parents met at King’s Cross Station, where Harry takes the Hogwarts Express each year.

Now about this series, the books consist of a boy who learns on his eleventh birthday that he is the orphaned son of two powerful wizards and possesses unique magical powers of his own. He is summoned from his life as an unwanted child to become a student at Hogwarts, an English boarding school for wizards. There, he meets several friends who become his closest allies and help him discover the truth about his parents’ mysterious deaths.

Rowling originally wrote these books for adults but it became really popular with kids in fifth grade to young adults. The books have several genres, but some are fantasy literature, drama, and young adult fiction. There are seven total books in the series. But if you are not into reading, because these books are large, there are movies for each book. I have read and seen the movies but it just depends on who you are in which you will like better, the movies or books.

I recommend both the books and movies, they are equally great. The books would great if you are looking for something new to read, and the movies are great for a binge a thon or just when there is nothing else on TV.
