Mobile World Congress has begun in Barcelona, and some of the biggest names in tech are descending on the city to show off their latest products. New phones from LG, Sony, and Huawei have already been revealed. Samsung showed off some new tablets, and BlackBerry and Nokia are making a comeback. Among all the releases, there are a few ones that are noteworthy; here are all the biggest releases so far.

Possibly the most anticipated release of the show is the LG G6 . Last year, LG brought the consumer world the LG G5, but the G5 proved to be a flop of a phone. LG went back to the drawing board and gave us the G6, a beautifully crafted phone. The main selling point of the G6 is the ultra wide-screen aspect ratio and cinematic viewing experience; what LG is saying is the the phone’s screen is almost bezel less. The G6 is a plus sized device with a 5.7-inch display and an aluminium body; this design allows the phone to stay the same size as a Google Pixel, but with bigger screen. The phone also uses Corning Gorilla Glass 5 all over. The LG G6 has dual 13MP rear cameras, one of which has a 125-degree wide-angle lens, which allows users to capture a wide-angle shot and a standard shot. The cameras can also create a depth affect shot. The G6 is available now.

BlackBerry made a comeback with their KeyOne. The KeyOne runs on Android features a modern touch screen and a physical keyboard that lets people know it is a BlackBerry. The KeyOne has a 4.5-inch screen with a 12MP rear camera and quick charge technology that allows the KeyOne to charge 50% in about 36 minutes, according to BlackBerry.

Maybe the coolest release of the show is the relaunched Nokia 3310. The original 3310 was released in 2000 and sold 126 million units worldwide, which makes it one of the best selling phones ever. Nokia said that the phone will not have internet connectivity and is aimed for those looking for a “burner phone.” In addition to the relaunch of the 3310, Nokia released a new line of mid-range smartphones, the Nokia 6, 5, and 3. All of the phone are made from aluminum and each runs the latest version of  Android 7.0 Nougat. Lastly, during their keynote, Nokia announced that all the phones would be available globally in the second quarter of 2017.

Sony also announced a new phone, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium. The XZ Premium is the successor to the Z5 Premium of 2015. Sony has been describing their new phone as a “glass loop” surface, which means that the glass continues all the way around the phone, with metal only being at the end capping the device. All the glass is Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which can theoretically survive a 1.6 meter, shoulder-height drop onto hard surfaces. It is 7.9mm thick which makes it somewhat thinner than the Z5 Premium. The XZ Premium is the first phone in the world to feature a 4K HDR (High Dynamic Range) display; Sony based the screen off of their Bravia TV technology that offers better color, clarity, and brightness. To show the screen off, Sony partnered with Amazon Video that has 4K HDR video. On the back of the XZ Premium is a 19MP high resolution camera that has 19% bigger pixels that helps capture sharp and detailed images in low-light environments. In addition to the larger pixels, the camera has a “memory stacked image sensor” which is capable of recording HD video at a rate of 960 frames per second; the user can capture HD video and then play it back in super slow motion. Currently, that is four times slower than any other smartphone on the market. On software, Sony claims that the XZ Premium can learn how the user uses their phone so that it can make recommendations. Finally, the XZ Premium is water resistant, but not water proof. Sony says the Xperia XZ Premium will be available in late Spring of 2017.

Mobile World Congress is just starting off and it is already looking like 2017 will be a great year for smartphones.
