Strawberry short cake is a dessert cake that is best made with strawberries and whip cream on the top. The cake part of strawberry short cake is called pound cake. After the pound cake is made all you have to do is add strawberries, strawberry syrup, whip cream, or all of it. The strawberry short cake is very easy to make.  The shortcake part is normally made with sugar, flour, baking soda or powder, butter, salt, cream or milk, goat milk, and many times people use eggs.

The recipe of the strawberry short cake goes way back to 1588. During summers fruit harvest there would be strawberry shortcake parties thrown. Some people still throw these parties around June 14th. These parties became well known and made June 14th Strawberry Shortcake day. The recipe did not call for whipped cream until 1910. strawberries are not the only thing used on shortcake. Shortcake can also be topped with other fruits such as blueberry, peach, raspberry, or chocolate.

Strawberry shortcake is made with shortcake and then the strawberries are cut up int slices. Once the strawberries are cut they are normally put in sugar where they will sit for multiple hours. The short cakes are layered with whip cream, strawberries, and juice. Vanilla and sugar are used to flavor the layers. Not all places use short cake to make there strawberry shortcake. Other places such as in Japan they will normally make it with sponge cake. In the UK the cake texture is quite different from the pound cake people use in America.

A not well known facts about strawberry shortcake is that the largest shortcake ever made weighed 21,213.40 lb. in 2012 the festival for the strawberry shortcakes called the Pasadena Strawberry festival had the largest strawberry shortcake. Also shortcake and cake are not at all a like. Cake is normally larger than shortcake.
