Shrek is Coming to Jefferson-Morgan

The Jefferson Morgan Drama Club will present Shrek the Musical. The show’s opening night will be on February 25th at 7pm. The following shows is on February 26th at 7pm and February 27th at 1pm.  Scott Moore is the director of the play with help along with Susan Tretinik. Haley Finley is helping with choreography.

Shrek the Musical is about an ogre who was moved to a swamp to live happily after being feared his whole life. Then some fairy-tale creatures show up at the swamp after being evicted by Lord Farquaad. So Shrek makes a deal, if he helps get their homes back, they have to leave his. But then Shrek and Lord Farquadd also make a deal, he will give the fairy-tale characters their home back if Shrek rescues Princess Fiona from the castle. Shrek accepts the deal and goes off to save the princess. Throughout the journey, strange and different things happen.

“I picked Shrek as the play this year because I wanted something fun and new. No one around here has done it,” said Scott Moore.

For the play he is hoping that all goes as smoothly as possible. Hoping the technical part and theatrical part all come together at the same time.

“I hold my breath at times,” said Moore when asked about the technical and theatrical part of the play.

Moore is looking forward to watching it all come together and showing off the talent.

“We have a lot of talent and most people do not realize it,” said Moore.

The thing Moore wants most with the play is for everyone to have fun. He wants both the audience and the actors to have a great experience.

“We have never done anything like this before in my 20+ years at Jefferson,” said Moore.

The drama club has been working on this since December. They have worked through 2 hour delays, early dismissals, and all of their extracurricular activities.

“We are going to win a Tony on this one,” said Moore.
