Counterfeiting Tickets

Going to a sports event or a concert is a fun time for everyone, but what if the tickets that were sold to someone were counterfeit?

Keith Juart bought Penguins tickets for the playoffs for him and his friends. Although, when they arrived they were surprised when told the tickets were counterfeit.

“When PPG Paints Arena staff scanned the tickets, Juart and his friends were told the tickets were counterfeit and, “everybody’s mood, everybody’s heart just sank. We went to the window and the lady said yep, these are counterfeit, not the right event code,” according to wtae.com.

Juart reported the incident to Pittsburgh Police at Zone 2, and went back to Craigslist to try and catch the con artist.

“Saw a post, exactly the same. It looked too similar. He was still using the same wording, I replied with an email so we set up another exchange,” said Juart. However, instead of going himself, he sent a friend to meet Williams at the corner of Fourth Ave and Stanwix Street in downtown Pittsburgh,” commented wtae.com. “The friend took Williams’ picture while selling to other hockey fans and then called police.Williams was arrested and police say in a criminal complaint that 29 alleged counterfeit tickets were confiscated, along with more than $1,000 in cash.”

Many people would have been infuriated about getting fake tickets especially big Penguins fans. Michael Pochron, a fan of the Penguins, is grateful that Juart caught the con artist.

“I feel that they did an amazing job reporting the con artist to the police. No matter if you are robbing a bank or purse it is all the same crime and should be charged as such,” commented Pochron. “If I was in that position I would have been very frustrated. I am glad one less con artist is off the streets.”

Nicholas Headley, also a fan of the Penguins, is glad Juart did what he did.

“I would be tremendously irritated when I got to the game and found out the truth. I would have done the best I could do to catch the con artist,” said Headley. “I would have done the same thing.”
