Kick Off the New Year The Right Way

A tradition many families follow is eating kielbasa and sauerkraut for new years dinner. This is a tradition my family commits to also.

This dinner is usually made in a crock pot. Apparently, this combination signifies good luck on New Year’s. That’s most likely a silly superstition but still, maybe it will bring you good luck in the new year. This was a thing Germans did. They were the ones who thought this dinner would be considered good luck. Even if it is a superstition, it still remains to be a popular tradition for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

The other thing people traditionally do is celebrate after the countdown. Basically, after the ball completely drops, you’ll hear people shooting guns, shooting off fireworks, or those cheap noise maker things sometimes. I take a different, more unique approach to this. I use an air horn. (One of those cans of compressed air with the horn on top) While I am usually the loudest horn around, I still hear some horns here and there. Tooting an air horn as soon as it strikes midnight is a loud but great way to celebrate the beginning of a new year.

There you have two traditions people often follow on New Years. The combination of kielbasa and sauerkraut for dinner to wind down and bring the year to an end. Then at midnight, shooting off fireworks or an air horn for excitement and celebration. Then finally the next day, start off the new year with some more kielbasa and sauerkraut. You aren’t living life right if you aren’t following these traditions.
