Our rifle team made their way to the big stage of the WPIAL State Finals at the Frazier Simplex last Thursday.

The WPIAL state finals matches are a little different than regular section matches. The finals matches are measured in how close  contestants are to the dead center of the target. This system is called the Orion scoring decimal system.

The contestants for JM were Abby Ozohonish, Cameron Cernuska, Colby Simkovic, Bryce Bedilion, Shelby Burkett, and Taylor Burnfield. The shooters from Waynesburg were Selena Phillips, Hunter Wasson, Nick Guess, and Grace Kalsey.

The team will receive their final score of their last match and what place they receive in the tournament. There are no first place ties in the WPIAL Championship, and if there is a tie both teams receive a plaque. Second place ties are determined by a head to head contest between the two teams. Third place tie is determined by a cumulative won/lost section record of all tied teams will be totaled. The rifle team placed third out of twelve different teams and 41 individuals who qualified for the state championship.
