Thankfulness in Food

A favorite meal I have during the month of November is apple dumplings. I love apple dumplings because they are hot, and then become are cool. They have a very good balance to them. They are opposites and that is how I love my food either sweet or salty, or sweet and sour. Plus the dumplings are an amazing comfort food especially after a hard day. They just melt right in your mouth and it one of the greatest feelings. The only way they have gotten better is that there is a story behind each and every dumpling. This year my mom, brother, my friend Katey, and I all went out to pick fresh apples. It was the first time we had ever done this. My mother even lost her keys in the trees, and we had to go looking for them.

My mom and I later on had made the dumplings. Although they did not look great, we had trouble unraveling the dough and actually getting the apples to fit inside. We had to take the dough and mush it together to make longer pieces so they would actually wrap around the dough. We even had to cut up a few apples to make them smaller to get them inside. After struggling through that we had to figure out how much topping to pit on it since we could not use the recipe since each dumpling was different. We put them in the oven and just hoped for the best. They came out amazingly, and filled the apple decorated kitchen with an apple smell. They were amazing, and my whole family loved them, and I can’t wait to make them again.
