The NFL offseason is flying by like a speeding bullet, and that means one of the biggest events of the year is swiftly approaching. The NFL Draft will take place on April 27-29 in Philadelphia and there are a large number of stories going into the three day event that will make it that much more exciting.

It seems that the consensus top pick for the 2017 draft is the defensive end out of Texas A&M, Myles Garrett. The Cleveland Browns will have the fortune of acquiring him, but they also have glaring need at quarterback. Luckily for them, they also have a first round pick at pick twelve where they could address said need. However, there are three questions to ask when it comes to that pick or more specifically, quarterbacks: Will they actually draft a QB at 12? Will that be the first QB off of the board? And who will be the first QB selected?

There seems to be a discrepancy for all of those questions. The first may seem like an obvious yes, but remember, we are talking about the Browns here. The other two questions seem to be a bit more vague. The top two quarterbacks in the class have been Clemson’s Deshaun Watson and North Carolina’s Mitch Trubisky. “I’m personally a fan of Watson. He’s a big time player that can play in a big time league,” said college football fan Nicholas Headley. “He did lead his team to a national championship, so he could be just as successful in the pros.”

Some experts believe that the Browns may not even use the pick. They have had their eyes on New England Patriots backup Jimmy Garoppolo for quite some time now, and Will Brinson of  CBS Sports believes that they will trade this pick among others to acquire him. “The Patriots have repeatedly leaked the fact they do not plan to trade Garoppolo this offseason. But the reality is if the Browns go the Patriots and drop an offer they can’t refuse, New England isn’t walking away,” explained Brinson.

Quarterbacks appear to be the biggest story going into the draft thus far. The 49ers, Bears, Jets, Texans, and potentially the Jaguars could be looking to upgrade at the quarterback position. “The 49ers of all teams need to get a fresh, young face at the quarterback spot,” said Dylan Crockard. “They may be worse off than they Browns because they are under new management and coaching staff, so a quarterback would be very helpful.

Outside of quarterbacks, there are many positions on both sides of the ball that will be taken and those players will make an impact. Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report completed a mock draft and highlighted some key players that could very well make an impact on the board. “Former Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey has seen his stock rising since putting together a strong showing at the combine,” explained Knox. He then went on to speak about O.J. Howard, the tight end from Alabama. “We haven’t seen tight ends going as high as some other offensive players in recent years, but given the potential teams seem to believe Howard possesses, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see him as the first offensive player from Alabama off the board.”

It’s very difficult to predict what will happen in the draft. Anything can happen, but it will most definitely be fun to see how things unfold.
