Leo Club at Jefferson Morgan is open to all high school students. It is a youth organization of the Lions Club International and the word “Leo” stands for leadership, experience, and opportunity. The objective is for young teenagers to have the opportunity and contribution to better the community. Leo Clubs have been around for over 50 years now.

The club is a great learning experience for teenagers. It teaches them to be responsible, leadership skills, teamwork, and to work hard. Students at Jefferson Morgan that are involved in Leo Club usually meet after school in Mrs. Huba’s room. They will do little projects and fundraisers to help out the community of Jefferson. Four year members of Leo Club get a gold pin in the beginning of the year. The president of Leo Club is usually a senior four year member and they are in charge of bringing ideas to the table. Emma Frank is the president of the Leo Club at Jefferson Morgan High School.

Some examples of projects that members do are roadside clean up, letters to cancer patients, fundraisers for the school, and many more. Being in Leo Club just for one year I have learned quite a bit. It showed me that there is so many opportunities that I can get involved in. I like the feeling of helping others and my community. I feel like more high school students should get involved in Leo Club.
