As Spring comes to Greene County, we can expect to see many new birds migrating over the next two or so months as the weather starts getting warmer.
Some common new birds that will be spotted during this early period of Spring migration are Warblers, Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, and Eastern Bluebirds. For those wanting to find Black and White Warblers, they’re most commonly found low in trees, as that’s where they feed, and they build their nest on the ground in woods; they tend to show a preference for dense forests. For those wanting to find Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, they’re most commonly found in open woods, the edge of woods, gardens, parks, orchards, or along streams. Orchards are a good shot for Ruby-throated Hummingbirds as they will be feeding on the nectar of flowers in orchards. Finally, the Eastern Bluebird can be found most commonly in open fields with scattered trees, farmlands, forest edges, roadsides, or fencelines.
