Music Is My Daily Necessity
For me, music is something I need to have everyday. I cannot go a day without listening to some type of tune or song. I am so connected with music that it is like a drug for me. The days where I don’t listen to any music I consider dull. I’ve always had music in my life so it is something that I tend to keep in my life for as long as I live.
Music has been a big part of my life for over half of my life. When I was about 4 or 5 years old I joined my old church’s kids choir. I loved it from the start. When I was in fifth or sixth grade we got a new children’s pastor there. She started a program for the kids called WAM (Worship Arts Ministry). We did a lot of singing, dancing, and interpretive dance. It was a lot of fun and I loved doing it. Then when I was in seventh grade I joined the school chorus. I was in the chorus for 2 years. Singing was something I loved to do. Singing along to songs is something that I cannot help but do.
When I was 5 years old I got a keyboard for Christmas. I started taking lesson with our youth pastor’s wife shortly after receiving that gift. When I started to get better at playing the piano I began to take lesson with a different member of our church, Julia. I have learned almost all that I know about playing the piano from her. I started to play the piano for my church on Sunday nights with her as my teacher. In the middle of this year I started to take lessons with an extremely good out-of-college college student, Dominic. He did stuff with the piano that blew my mind. I have been playing the piano for over 10 years. I have a connection with music that many people I know do not have. I adore my connection with music and would not give it up for anything.
In fifth or sixth grade I joined the band. At first I tried to play the flute but quickly learned that is was not the instrument for me. I then switched from a woodwind to the brass section. The baritone was the instrument for me. I played the baritone and was a part of the band up until the eighth grade. I was in the concert band and the marching band. I love having the musical talent of playing a musical instrument.
Music has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. I always need to have a daily dose of music. I love the feeling of it coursing through my veins when I listen to it. “Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest, heals the heart and makes it whole, flows from Heaven to the soul,” is a saying that I have seen many times. I completely agree with it too. Music helps me express my emotions and keeps my mind at peace. I have also seen the saying, “Music helps me escape from the reality that I live in,” a number of times. I personally agree with that saying too. To me, music is like a “Get Out of Jail Free”. It helps me forget about my problems that I am having in my life. I like to think that music is what feelings sounds like. There is a quote that Plato has about music that is one of my favorite quotes. “Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the wind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.”
