In late August Green Day announced that they will be releasing the album, Revolution Radio, in October of this year. It’s been about 4 years since we have gotten a proper album from the punk rock band with the last one ¡Tré! coming in late 2012.

This will be the 13th studio album in the long career of the three rockers. Along with the announcement of the album we were also treated to a new single, “Bang Bang”. And i have to say i’m impressed. It seems Green Day has not missed a beat in the 4 years that they’ve taken off coming back in full swing with this energetic grunge inspired sound that they are known for. It is great to see that the trio is returning to the days of catchy bass cords and energetic drums. This song feels like it fits right at home in the band’s American Idiot album, which is considered by many to be the peak of the band’s success. It has almost a touch of Dookie with the melodic bass and wild drum solos thrown throughout the 3 minute ballad. It’s just an overall fun song and it shows that the guys are still loving what they’re doing even after all these years.

Just a month later we were given the title track for the album, “Revolution Radio”. With this song we get the other side of Green Day’s talents. Whereas “Bang Bang” focuses highly on bass riffs and drum solos “Revolution Radio” focuses on the methodical vocals of Billie Joe and his ability to shred a guitar. This song definitely sounds like it belongs right on the American Idiot album. With haunting vocals and heavy guitar riffs it is reminiscent of songs like “Basketcase” and “Jesus of Suburbia” with just how much it focuses on controlled vocals and guitar. All together it is a more controlled song from the frantic energy that is “Bang Bang”, and i also believe that it is the better of the two songs.

With the two songs we have to look at now I believe that this album is going to be an amazing album from my favorite band of all time. And this is shaping up to be a very Green Year,
