2016 was a good year for video games. The video game world saw a plethora of great games come out like Dark Souls 3, Uncharted 4, Pokemon Sun and Moon, Overwatch and Final Fantasy XV. Just to name a few. 2017 looks promising as well.

New releases are always a big deal in the video game world. While some fans are excited to see the continuation of their favorite franchises they also welcome the addition of new IP’s. Such games like Vampyr, Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone, and Cuphead. These games will be looking to shake up the foundation of the video game world while making a lasting impact on gamers. Along with the introduction of these new franchises fans will also get a great deal of continuations to their favorite franchises. These games include Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Red Dead Redemption 2, Destiny 2, and Resident Evil 7. 2017 is indeed looking like a huge year in video game releases and it will be exciting to see what these games have to offer.

While Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo have all been rumored to have consoles coming out this year, only one company has delivered, Nintendo. Nintendo has announced the new Nintendo Switch. The Switch is set for release worldwide, March 3, 2017. The Switch is described as a “hybrid console” much like the Wii U the Switch’s main controller is a tablet like device with the sides resembling a standard controller. The sides of the tablet can be removed and added to a grip to offer the more conventional playing experience. Along with the new console Nintendo has announced three upcoming games for the Switch. Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, and an unannounced Mario game. This is a big deal, and Nintendo alway delivers on their content so the loyal fanbase can rest easy knowing Nintendo has their back.

This year is looking to be a good one in the video game world and while it’s uncertain how successful these will all be, but it will be exciting to see.
