My Favorite Game
In my years as a high school basketball player, the Carmichaels game freshman year is my favorite game, but the events prior to that upset was the reasoning for this game being so memorable.
We had played Carmichaels about a month or so earlier (away) without my senior guard, Ashley Faddis, and we got beat by 30. Of course, there was talk about them blowing us out, but we started the game with four freshmen. I would hope that five seniors could put a beating on a bunch of freshmen.
About two weeks after that tough loss, we played the California Trojans, and it came down to a final shot at the buzzer that I had missed, ending in a loss. Following the game, Carmichaels had been on social media talking about how Cal almost got beat by “a bunch of freshmen.”
Carmichaels was set to clinch the section title with just a win against us and Mapletown. Prior to the game, their star player had college recruits and family and friends there to watch, but decided not to warm up. To this day, I do not understand the reasoning behind her not warming up, but I was not complaining. She averaged about 23 points per game, but not that night. From the beginning, the shots were falling for me as well as for the rest of team, and Carmichaels was unable to pick up any momentum. The gym was packed for both sides, and by the end of the night, JM had taken their section title away from them with the score 49-42.
It is always fun playing Carmichaels, and bringing home the W. It will always be a game that I remember.
