My Final Farewell
May 27, 2016

The girls basketball team suited up for the last time in their own locker room, and got ready and as the seniors were announced and celebrated prior to the game starting. As I was called out, the cheers and love I received from everyone in the stands was overwhelming. People who inspire me daily, family and friends, my mission team, friends from my traveling basketball team were all in the stands for the emotional bitter sweet final game at JM. After taking multiple pictures with family and friends, and tears being shed, I was given flowers by J.D. and gave him a hug as his face lit up.  Little did I know that he was in the midst of asking me to prom, and had gotten me a big stuffed lion and made a poster that asked, “Kayla, they aren’t lion when they say you’re an all-star on the court, I’m not lion when I ask, be my prom all-star?” My reaction was priceless and I wish that someone would have gotten that on video.

Being an athlete and having people look up to you is an amazing feeling, and of course being able to play the sport is an experience of a lifetime, but I can not express how much it meant to me that I get to take J.D. to prom. Little does he know that it made my night and that will never forget being asked to prom at my senior night.
