Athlete to Journalist
Growing up, writing was a strong-suit of mine along with sports. I wanted to write about sports and how much of an impact they had on my life. After playing a game, I would sit with my parents and recap the game from start to finish and still do to this day. Sometimes writing about my feelings on a certain subject would help me express myself way more effectively than trying to have a conversation. Writing is and has always been my way of communication, which is a blessing and a curse. For anyone that knows me, I seem to not have a problem voicing my opinion on something that interests me. Most people have no idea that in fact, I do catch myself finding difficulties expressing my feelings, which is why writing has been my strong-suit.
My mom is an excellent communicator which throws people off when my communication skills are lacking compared to hers. She always told me that I would end up doing something involving writing because I appeared to be effortlessly good at it in her eyes. Something tells me that is in the “Mom Handbook,” that everything a child does is supposed to be above par in a mothers’ eyes, but that is just me.
Journalism has become second nature to me. With a push or two, physically and mentally, from Mrs. Huba, it has been an eye-opening experience. I have been able to learn things about my writing as well as how to write many different articles and/or papers. Writing about sports is something that I intend to do for the rest of my life, and will always be a joy of mine.
