Saint Patrick’s Day is a holiday that my family loves to celebrate. My mom’s side of the family came from Scotland and Ireland, and we take great pride in being Scotch-Irish. Some of our favorite things to do on Saint Patrick’s Day are listen to Irish bands and folk music, make corned beef and cabbage, and be with the rest of our family.

Flogging Molly is one of my family’s favorite band to listen to. We love that they are an Irish rock band. Before people show up to our house for dinner, we listen to Flogging Molly to get us in a jolly and upbeat mood. We listen to them whilst we cook Irish dishes, bake Irish delights, and whilst we’re having a good time with friends and family. Another Irish band we like to listen to is Danú. They play very traditional sounding Irish folk music. We love the calming sound of their music.

Every Saint Patrick’s Day my mother and I cook corned beef and cabbage together. It is a simple Irish dish that my family loves making and eating. We prepare it as a soup. Together we chop the vegetables for the soup, cook the corned beef the night before, and pile up our soup pot to the very top with vegetables and meat. Making our corned beef and cabbage soup together is a nice time that my mom and I get to spend with each other.

Every March 17th, we have family and friends over for dinner and a good time. We laugh and enjoy the company of each other. Before dinner, my family sits in the family room together and we chat about everything that is going on in our lives. It is a nice time to see what new has happened in our lives and our family members lives. Usually 5:00 is when we start to serve dinner on Saint Patrick’s Day. After dinner is served and we have all eaten, we play games in the dining room. This year we all played The Game of Things. It was funny, exciting, and crazy.

On of my favorite holidays is Saint Patrick’s Day. It is a day I get to celebrate being Irish. I enjoy eating Irish cuisine, listening to Celtic music, and being with my family.
