Coming Together
The 2017 Jefferson Morgan Varsity Softball Team has had their ups and downs. When most people talk about Jefferson’s Softball Team, they talk about the 2015 season. That team is long gone, the only remaining WPIAL Champions are Autumn Tedrow, Brooke Diamond, and Krista McCartney. The 2017 team is a completely different group of girls. They are a young team just trying to learn the game. So far, they only have four total wins and hopefully a few more will come. Not many games are left in the season but the team has overcome a lot, an eight game losing streak.
Today the girls got a few wins under their belt and now know what it feels like to win. They came together as a team and played like a unit. Last game they played California at home and went into extra innings. The Rockets were down 5-3 and came back and fought. After a few hits and a home-run from Krista McCartney, they were back in the game. In the bottom of the 7th inning, Autumn Tedrow tied up the game 10-10 with a solo home-run. In the bottom of the 9th inning, the bases were loaded with two outs. Autumn Gustovich was up and hit a grad slam to win the game. This was definitely a happy day for the Lady Rockets.
Maybe in a few years, with a few more wins under their belts, the Lady Rockets will be back on top and dominating the section. Good Luck to all the girls on finishing up their season!
Autumn Tedrow is a senior and a third year Journalism student.
Tedrow participates in volleyball and softball. She is a varsity volleyball captain.
