The History Behind the London Fog
What is a London Fog drink? It is an Earl Grey Tea Latte with foamy milk and vanilla. People call it the London Fog because the warm milk is cloudy like fog, and it turns the color of the fog-laden London afternoon thus the name was born.
A pregnant woman named Mary Loria asked for an Earl Grey Tea at Vancouver’s Buckwheat Cafe in 1997. Mary claims she was the original person who made it but it’s still unknown who actually came up with the drink. Other tea and coffee shops have tried to take ownership but not until the 2000s. This became popular by popping up in Starbucks and Second Cups, which is where Loria’s family visited often.
Who do you think made the London Fog, Mary and her family, or Starbucks and Second Cup?
