With the release of his first album, Rodeo, Travis Scott took his first steps towards becoming a superstar. With the release of Travis Scott’s second album, it was clear that he’d hold onto that superstar status.
Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight was released on September 2, 2016 through Epic Records to critical acclaim. When I think about one of the best hip-hop albums of the 2010’s, I think of this album. Birds in the Trap is such a spectacular album, whether that be on the production side of things or the vocals and flow of everybody on it. Birds in the Trap features popular artists like The Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar, the latter having a particularly amazing verse on the single Goosebumps.
The tracklisting of this album is absolutely perfect, whether it be the energetic opener “The Ends” or the mellow “Goosebumps.” With only four out of fourteen songs being non-features, the album can feel a little bit less like Travis Scott’s and more like a collaborative effort, which it was, but the problem about that is that Scott’s verses are arguably better than everybody else’s, except Kendrick Lamar’s and Young Thug’s.
When Birds in the Trap released, I was only ten years old, but I still listened to this album, as I did with every other hip-hop album/mixtape that was released back then. Kid Me was shocked when he listened to this album due to Scott’s smooth vocals and the almost dream-like beats the album has. Overall, I give this project a 10/10, as it’s just brilliant in every single way possible, and there’s not a single track that’s bad.
