On September 27, 2024, the Washington D.C. emo band, Origami Angel, released their junior album, “Feeling Not Found.” “Feeling Not Found” was released through Origami Angel’s record label, Counter Intuitive Records.
“Feeling Not Found” is an excellent addition to the band’s discography, excellently added to their last album, Gami Gang. “Feeling Not Found” has a more diverse sound than Gami Gang, as they’re known for switching their genre a lot but keeping their emo roots lyrically. This album finds Origami Angel implementing some elements of hardcore, such as breakdowns and shouting. Origami Angel is known for experimental sounds, as they can also be credited with the fifth wave of emo being so versatile.
The intro track “Lost Signal” has a more pop sound to it, the hum of an amp being turned on with a guitar already plugged in, perfectly transitioning into the hardcore-sounding “Dirty Mirror Selfie.” Multi-instrumentalist and lead vocalist Ryland Heagy really shines on this album, with amazing riffs and even better vocals. Being only a two-man band, Origami Angel finds themselves in an unusual position, but like their previous albums, they show that a band doesn’t need to have more than two members to really shine. Furthermore, the production found on this album is excellent; the drums, bass, guitar, and vocals—everything sounds amazing. “Feeling Not Found” is a very emotional album that takes the listener through a very emotional journey, through feelings of not belonging, being unable to feel emotions, and being suppressed as a person by those who would call themselves friends.
Overall, “Feeling Not Found” is an extremely solid album and an excellent addition to Origami Angel’s discography. I give this album a 4/5.
