The English singer-songwriter, Charli xcx’s Sophomore album, “Sucker,” was released on December 15, 2024 through Atlantic Records.
“Sucker” was an excellent addition onto Charli’s Freshman album, proving that she wasn’t just going to be a one hit wonder, and that she was in fact talented. “Sucker” sounds nothing like its predecessor, as it has a more pop-punk influence with its extremely warm electric guitar riffs used on about every track on the album. Just like the previous album, “Sucker” has many hits from it, like “Boom Clap,” “Break the Rules,” and “Red Balloons.”
“Sucker” finds its greatest strengths in its summer-vibe it contains, as it is an overall extremely happy and poppy record. If the year 2014 had a sound, it would be this album, as most of the songs on “Sucker” got a lot of radio playtime and became the core memories of a lot of kids who grew up in 2014. Moving on, one of Charli xcx’s strongest qualities as an artist is making albums with no skips on the tracklist, as “Sucker” is an overall perfect and catchy album.
This album is an excellent place to start off in Charli xcx’s discography as it basically encapsulates her as a whole, although “True Romance” also did the same quite well. In my opinion, “Boom Clap” is the best track on the album, as it’s short and catchy, and will be stuck inside one’s head long after they listen to it. The whole album succeeds in being just as catchy as “Boom Clap,” and with just one listen proves that fact, no multiple-listens are needed to understand the greatness of “Sucker.”
As a whole, I feel as if “Sucker” is a perfect album, which is why I give it a 5/5. For more information on Charli xcx, or to listen to “Sucker,” you can find her on any music-streaming platform, or on any social media, like Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
