“The Sin and the Sentence,” the eighth studio album by the Florida metalcore band Trivium released on October 20, 2017 through Roadrunner Records.
In Trivium’s discography, “The Sin and the Sentence” is a pretty important album, as it proved that Matt Heafy was still able to do screams after vocal cord damage during one of their tours. “The Sin and the Sentence” also saw the introduction of a brand-new drummer who has been with Trivium ever since, Alex Bent. This album serves as a great reminder to why Trivium is such a great band, as songs like the title track and “The Revanchist” shows the musical skill and talented lyrical writing of Trivium.
Just like any other Trivium album, “The Sin and the Sentence” is perfect from front to back, not a single track on the album is not worth listening to over and over again as every track is expertly crafted. Additionally, Alex Bent’s drumming really improves this record as Trivium had been switching drummers over and over again, and Alex Bent was the first one who was actually fit for Trivium’s music as he is excellent at keeping tempo with their already high-bpm songs.
“The Sin and the Sentence” surprised many Trivium fans, as their previous album had absolutely no screaming on it, which of course caused mixed reviews, so many Trivium fans were pleasantly surprised when Trivium went back to the heaviness they were known for.
Overall, “The Sin and the Sentence” by Trivium is an excellent album with no skips on either side, and while it’s not exactly their best, it’s one of their better albums, which is why I give it a perfect 5/5.
