“You’re Gonna Miss it All” by the Philadelphia emo band Modern Baseball, their sophomore album, was released February 11, 2014, through Run for Cover Records.
This album followed the release of their previous album, “Sports,” which was an extremely high-rated emo album, and the band proved themselves with the quality of the release of this album. This album honestly has one of my favorite openings to an album ever: “Fine, Great.” The opening to this album truly sets the tone for the rest of the album while also presenting relatable lyrics. Sound-wise, Modern Baseball sounds just as great as they did on their freshman album, the songwriting just as good.
Both singers on the album, Brendan Lukens and Jake Ewald, sound really good on this album, their voices fitting their songwriting. This album is one that you can come back to anytime that you’re not feeling all that great, as the album just hits a sweet spot, especially tracks like “Your Graduation” and “Rock Bottom.” The whole tracklist, actually, is perfect, and there’s not a single bad track; all the tracks feel like they’re supposed to be there, none feeling like filler.
After this album, the band released one more album before going on hiatus due to mental health reasons, and that left a dedicated fan base. Though it’s sad that Modern Baseball won’t release any more albums, I recommend this album to anyone that hasn’t listened to them before. I think that this album has a lot to it that can make anyone like it, because it just hits you emotionally in a way you didn’t know an album could.
In conclusion, “You’re Gonna Miss it All” is an overall extremely well-made and excellent album. I give this album a 4/5 in total.
