“amo,” by Bring Me The Horizon, was released on January 25, 2019, through Sony Music Entertainment UK Limited. “amo” redefined Bring Me The Horizon’s sound as a previously death/metalcore-turned-stadium rock band—this album is an electropop album.
In my opinion, “amo” is an excellent addition to Bring Me The Horizon’s discography, although a lot of fans will disagree with that. BMTH’s previous album, “That’s The Spirit,” caused the band to catch fire as it included many stadium-rock elements. This album, when released, was therefore viewed very furiously by many fans as “amo” was even more pop music-esque.
Tracks like “MANTRA,” “nihilist blues,” and “sugar honey ice & tea” stand out as particularly catchy tracks. Those three tracks in total, I believe, are excellent additions to their song list, even in comparison to their deathcore songs—which I absolutely love. Furthermore, as the album name suggests, this album focuses a lot on love. The name “amo” stems from the Spanish word for “I love.”
The album’s cover, a CD in a wrap with hearts on it, is a lot like many other album covers, like YEEZUS by Kanye West. What’s particularly cool about the cover, however, is the actual physical CD, as it looks like it’s exactly the same as the digital cover.
As a whole, I believe that “amo” is one of Bring Me The Horizon’s most solid albums, as the sound and lyrics are some of the best they’ve written. Although some of their albums appeal to me more sound-wise, “amo” is my favorite album by them. In total, I give this album a perfect 5/5.
