Douglas Education Center
The Art Club went on a field trip to Douglas Education Center’s open house yesterday April 7, 2016. The Art Club was able to explore the school and see what they had to offer for the Savini Program. The Savini Program has to do with special effects and different creatures that are created. The school teaches kids how to do special effects for movies and even create the monsters that star in them. The Savini Program deals with a lot of art and the different things it takes to be successful in that type of field after graduation.
When students got to Douglas they were able to explore and go through the different things they had to offer. Teachers at the school gave students advice on what is done to become successful. They went through everything from Enrolling to graduation.
“I had a lot of fun at Douglas. It was nice to explore a different type of career and it was interested to see how everything was done”, Kolby Kendall said.
Students at Douglas can apply for a show called Face Off. This show has to do with turning people into creatures, but that is not the big thing. The judges look at the art that was done and the realness that it brings. Students apply around their last semester before graduation. This is so it does not get in the way of their classes. A lot of students at that school are accepted for the show and they always do a good job.
“Checking out the school was very exciting for me because I love to do what they do. I would like to go to this school so it was nice to get a front row seat of hoe everything works”, Carly Riggi said.
At the open house they had a presentation in front of many people how creatures on movies are created. They talked through the whole process allowing people to learn how it is done. A few graduates who were on Face Off created some zombies to show what people will learn if they choose that school.
Overall students learned a lot and got a look at what they will do if they chose to do further schooling at Douglas. They offer many programs other than special effects, like CDL and Cosmetology. It is a great school and is located not too far.
