As winter begins, the end of the fall sports season is upon us. Not only sports, but marching band has also come to an end. This is even more true for the seniors in the band, as their marching career has come to an end here at Jefferson-Morgan. Usually for these students, they would be able to look forward to another season, but this was their last go round as members of the marching band.

“It’s an odd feeling for sure. It seems just yesterday we walked into our first band camp as seventh graders,” Drum Major Nicholas Headley explained. “We’ve done so much and we’ve had great success, so I’m happy with what we’ve done in this past few years.” Next year, the band will be searching for a new drum major with Headley graduating. He is hoping that they’ll be able to find someone great as his replacement.

Throughout the senior’s years in the band, they were able to rebuild this band into a prominent, award winning activity in the school. When they joined the band in seventh grade, it had just over twenty members in it. With recruitment and bringing friends in, this group was able to help grow the band into an organization with 65 members in it today.

“We’re very proud that we’ve been able to help this band grow while having fun along the way,” said Michael Pochron. “We’ve been able to improve in numbers as well as in skill. Winning multiple competition parades have been won by this group and we couldn’t be more proud of our achievements.”

This group has been able to win the King Coal, Autumn Glory, and Buckwheat Festival throughout their years, including another win at the Buckwheat Festival this year. It was a great year to go out on, and these seniors will surely be missed due to all the contributions they have made in their years.
