New Star Wars Title Released
The eighth installment of the Skywalker saga in the Star Wars universe finally has a title. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is expected to be released in December of this year, and Star Wars fans are raving about what may happen in the upcoming Disney film.
If The Last Jedi mirrors The Empire Strikes Back in a similar way that The Force Awakens mirrored A New Hope, that means that the advantage will shift to the dark side of the force in this next film. Led by Kylo Ren, General Hux, and Supreme Leader Snoke, the First Order will look to overpower the Resistance much like the Empire did to the Rebellion in the original trilogy. There will also clearly be a similarity of Luke training Rey in a way that he was trained by Yoda in the first set of films.
Avid Star Wars fan, Dustin Schimansky, had a few things to say about the release of the new title. “I’m really looking forward to seeing this movie. It’ll be interesting to see what they do with the characters. Hopefully they can develop in a good way and make this movie just as good as the ones that came before it.”
Another fan, Isaac Dean is interested in something else about the movie. “This movie should give us the answer to a question that we’ve wanted to know since the last one, is Rey a Skywalker? That’s the one big thing that I’m hoping to get out of this movie.”
The new title does pose a big question though: Who exactly is The Last Jedi? Some speculations include Rey, Luke Skywalker, or even the dastardly Kylo Ren himself. Entertainment Weekly has its own take on who The Last Jedi is, and most people would have to agree.
According to Entertainment Weekly’s Anthony Breznican , “Once upon a time, it was Luke Skywalker. But now the obvious answer would seem to be Daisy Ridley’s cast-off Rey, who in The Force Awakens discovered powers she never dreamed possible, using the Force to [lift] Anakin and Luke Skywalker’s old lightsaber from the snow and defeating Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) in single combat.”
Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker in the series, had his own take on the title. “It’s got a real samurai [vibe],” he said. “It’s straightforward and minimalist, and I like that.”
The Last Jedi is scheduled for release on December 15, 2017. Leading up to the release, fans will be looking to find out more details about the film until they finally see it for themselves.
