Pride and Prejudice is by Jane Austen. It was first published on January 28, 1813. This fictional novel is emotional and captivating.

Pride and Prejudice is a romance novel. It has plenty of satire in it. There are several relationships in the book. Certain sad occurrences happen, but there is comic relief and a lot of happiness in the story. The novel takes place between 1797 and 1815 in England during the Napoleonic Wars.

Elizabeth Bennet is the protagonist of the story. Her mother, Mrs. Bennet, wants all five of her daughters to get married. She does more harm to her them than good. The Bennets don’t have a lot of money, so the mother hopes that the daughters will marry men of money. Elizabeth Bennet is a smart, young woman, who is usually overlooked. Her sister, Jane, usually gets all the attention for being the “prettiest” of the Bennet daughters.

Jane Bennet catches the eye of a single man named Mr. Bingley. Her sister, Elizabeth, is happy for her but hopes to find love. She’ll soon meet a man named Darcy, who is considered to be a rude, wealthy man. Darcy judges her based on her background and actions. This makes Elizabeth judge Darcy, although he may not be that bad of a person.

As the story goes on Elizabeth finds more about Darcy that she dislikes, but she may misjudge him due to her pride. Pride and prejudice is actually the theme of this novel. Elizabeth’s pride leads to her misjudgment of Mr, Darcy. Darcy’s prejudice of Elizabeth makes her judgement even worse. There’s conflict between the two as they wonder if they like each other. In addition to their conflict, there is also conflict with Jane and Bingley.

The whole story is a whirl of emotions. There’s love, conflict, and comedy in the story. It’s a good read for those who enjoy romance and comedy. The book has been made into a film a few times and it’s inspired other movies. This novel has won awards such as Top 100 Romances and Best Romance of All Time.
