Phones are something almost everyone owns, but what makes people buy them?

Junior Allie Royer tells us some of the essential things a phone must have whenever she’s looking to buy one. “So if I want to buy I phone I would want it to last and be durable. A phone that won’t break the moment I drop it or when it gets knocked to the ground; something with a protective screen case.” Maybe Royer will find her new phone if Tomsguide.com is right that “the indestructible smartphone is closer than you think”.

Nydailynews.com reports that “more than 60% of U.S. teens have their own iPhone and iPad, prefer Apple products to the competition.” And they aren’t wrong; Freshman Emily Teegarden says that she tends to buy iPhones because “they are made by a reliable company and are user friendly.”

Sophomore Luke Bates says, “I don’t exactly use my phone too often, mostly just to text and browse the internet.” He also stated that he would prefer a phone with at least 5gb storage.

According to Statista.com the three most commonly visited websites by teens in 2016 were YouTube, Gmail, and Snapchat. All of those sites use a large amount of data when a user is not connected to the internet, so most people tend to buy phones with more gigabytes available.

Many factors are present when one is buying a phone, whether it be a strong screen, a good deal on gigabytes, or just a prefered brand. Everyone has their own personal preference for their phones, and companies keep developing new phone with new skills to meet those preferences.
