Leo Club Lions
Leo club is a community service club sponsored the Lions Clubs in Clarksville. At Jefferson-Morgan Leo Club is hoping to get some new members and October is growth month. If you think you would like to join this fantastic club you can stop by Mrs.Huba’s room (201) to pick an application or just if you have any questions. If a member gets three applications/ new members, they get a gold star. You could also talk to an officer of Leo Club, Emma Frank (President), Erin Confortini (Vice President), Jamie Lawrence (Treasure), or Eli Rafail (Secretary). The Leo club I currently accepting new members until the end of October, there is a small five dollar due. So you better hurry and fill out an application because they have a lot of fun activities going on this year!
Officers for Leo have a good bit of responsibility and play an important role.”They come together as a group to make decisions,”said Mrs. Huba “As president, I write the agendas for the meetings, I talk at the meetings, and sign papers, and help Mrs.Huba.” said Frank. Emma has been a part of Leo Club since freshman year, which is when you are allowed to join. Being a part of Leo for so long could have had an effect on how she became president. Being a part of Leo Club is special,” I like that we can come together as students and help the community.” Emma said.
Erin Confortini is vice president of Leo Club, and has been a part of Leo Club for all four years, just like Emma. The vice president and president have similar duties but not the same. “My duty as an officer is to lead our members when doing community service.” Said Confortini. Erin said she likes being an officer because it gives her an opportunity to be a leader. “My favorite part of Leo Club is helping the community.” Erin said.
Jamie Lawrence is treasurer of Leo club; has been a member of Leo since freshman year of high school. Jamie said “I like that I’m in the loop about things before they happen.” Her duties of a treasurer is keeping track of the money, help advise the other officers and Mrs.Huba on fundraising.
Eli Rafail is the secretary of Leo Club, and his duties he says are to” Help the younger and newer Leos with their service work, organize service events, take attendance at meetings, and maintain new membership records.” Eli has been a part of Leo Club sine his first year of high school, just like the others on the board. Eli chose to join this club because he wanted to help the community by putting in his service hours.
Some of the activities going on this year are backpack program, what that is, is we pack backpacks with food and snacks for kids who might not get to eat at home on the weekends. So the Leo Club will fill backpacks and put them in the lockers of the kids. Also, what we do is roadside clean-up. Roadside clean-up is when the members go out and clean up a stretch of the road in Jefferson and help keep our streets clean. That will occur the last week of September and the week of November 14th. Other activities that we have planned are using our dues that we collect with the applications to buy things the woman’s shelter needs in Waynesburg, bell ringing in December, recycling eye glasses, which can be dropped off in room 201, Mrs.Hubas room. Our future plans are planting in the courtyard in October and spring and trying to get some perennial flowers donated to plant in the front of the school. So come pick up an application and join the Leo Club and all the fun waiting ahead!
