Henneman Reaches 1,000 Point Milestone
On Monday, December 8th, Senior Rece Henneman scored his 1,000th point against Beth-Center. Henneman joins an elite group of only 12 student athletes who have achieved this goal. After graduation, Rece’s name and career number of points will be added to the banner in the gymnasium. Shanna Yourchik was the last student to score 1,000 points.
“Going into the game, I needed 34 points to reach 1,000. During the game, the points were on my mind, but I wasn’t counting every one. Nick Gustovich told me that I only needed four more.”
Henneman was at the foul line when he scored his 1,000th point. Coach Garrett called a time out and Rece posed for a picture and hugged his mom.
On average, Henneman scores 30 points a game. Most student athletes achieve their 1,000th point toward the end of their career. Rece is unique in this regard because the team is only two games in to the season. With a full season ahead of him, Henneman is on track to be one of the highest scoring Jefferson-Morgan student athletes.
When asked about his accomplishments, Rece Henneman is humble. “My coaches and teammates mean the world to me. I could not have achieved what I did without their support.” One coach in particular, Roy Bogges, stands out for Henneman. “Without Coach Bogges, I would not be at the skill level that I am today. He taught me so much.”
Rece has worked hard to achieve this recognition. Basketball has been an all season sport for him and he would like to play after high school. After graduation, Rece would like to study secondary education with a concentration in special education.
