Come to School- Attendance Matters

Attendance is an important  in high school for many reasons.

“Attendance is very important because that is the only way you are able to further your learning. If you aren’t in class then you aren’t learning any of your required information,” said Reagan Rush. If an athlete misses 20 days of school, they cannot participate in sporting events.

Once a student turns 17, they cannot get turned into the District Magistrate. Students are allowed to have three unexcused absences but any more than that the CYS will be notified.  When a student does not show up to school they have to bring in an excuse written by a doctor or a parent. A student is allowed to have up to ten excused absences in a school year. An excuse must include students’ name, date of absence or tardiness, reason, and a signature of parent/guardian.  Students who drive will lose their privileges to drive to school. Three tardies equal five days loss of driving, six tardies equal 20 days loss of driving, and 12 or more will result in the student losing their driving privileges for the whole year.

“Coming to school is important to me because I don’t like to make up work,” said Emily Palone.

Early dismissals, tardies, or half days will also go on your record. Half day absences are when a student comes in before 11:05 am. If one comes in later than 11:05, the student will be marked down as a full day absence. An early dismissal will not be held against a student if it is after 2:15 pm.  Also when a student is 18 years of age or older, he or she can sign themselves out.

Students who do not show up to school cannot attend an after school event.
