Pendland Participates in Coal Queen Pageant

Kayla Pendland represented Jefferson-Morgan High School in both the Coal Queen and Miss Rain Day Pageants for Greene County.

“My favorite thing about these events is making so many memories and becoming life-long friends with people from different schools. You meet so many different people and create bonds with them that will stick with you forever,” said Pendland.

During the Coal Queen Pageant, Kayla won first place in the interview category. This year marked the 62nd year of the Bituminous Coal Festival.

On July 26, 2015, Kayla participated in the Miss Rain Day Pageant.  Five girls competed for the title.  As part of the event, Kayla raised money for the Humane Society and attended a dinner theater trip.  For the talent proportion of the event, Kayla sang A Thousand Years for Rain Day and The Rose for Coal Queen.  Pendland was the recipient of the Remo C. Bertugli Memorial Award.

“My advice for others interested in being a part of Rain Day is to got for it, the most important thing would be representing your school to the best of your ability. It is such a great time, and you will meet some amazing people.
