Bell Ringing

This time of year, the Salvation Army is busy collecting donation through their iconic way. Almost every store front has a volunteer or a Santa ringing a bell next to a red kettle with a Salvation Army sign above it. These volunteers are usually bracing the cold and elements to do a good deed. To try and help out the cause, the Jefferson – Morgan National Honor Society and the Leo Club will be bracing the cold, too.

This Friday, December 16, 2016, the students that make up the National Honor Society and the Leo Club will be collecting donations by the Dry Tavern Giant Eagle. Additionally, the Jefferson – Morgan Student Council was helping out the last two Fridays.

“It is important to me to give my time and help out a great cause,” said Eli Rafail. “Not only is it for a good cause, but you can get a group of friends to do it with you,” explained Rafail. “When I volunteered my time, I was with a group of friends and we sang Christmas songs to bring some cheer to people around us.”

The Salvation Army released a statement saying that their national goal this year is to collect over two million dollars. As of right now, this looks like a long shot as they are reporting that they are not receiving as much money as last year. Personally, I believe we need to all get out and donate some money and time to the Salvation Army.

“This is a good thing we are doing and I am happy to do it,” said Erin Confortini. “This is my third year ringing bells and it seems like it just keeps getting colder, but it is still fun,” Confortini explained. “As I have said, the more the merrier.”

Any student wishing to ring bells can sign up to do so by Mrs. Huba’s door. Go out and spread some holiday cheer!
