Members of the Reading Club volunteered from 10 AM to 2 PM at the food pantry hosted by the Jefferson Baptist Church on Wednesday, September 20th to help out the members.
Curious to know how one gets into this type of volunteering, Esther Neroni was questioned. “The lady who ran it before George let me know about her involvement. I’m not sure if she asked me, or if I just showed up one day, but I’ve been here since.”
Those who run the food pantry, George Nutt alongside a few others, were in need of assistance from the new generation for this month’s pantry. When asked why Nutt found joy within running the food bank, he said, “I’m doing the work of finding the lord.”
Five students were asked by Ms. Caffrey to attend the church, and each student received a task by the official members. The way the event was set up was that ten cars were guided into the parking lot in a line. Two ladies worked on numbering the cars and marking down which box they needed. Boxes depended on the size of the family that needed fed, ranging from one, two, and three.
One student was asked to watch over the outside food, one was tasked to running the assigned numbers of cars into the church, and the other three helped out with moving the boxes of food to the awaiting cars. Everything turned out to be a success.
