On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, several Jefferson-Morgan High School students volunteered at the Jefferson Community Blood Drive. This was from noon to 5:00 Pm and the students left around 2:30 because of school hours.
A reason we do Blood drives is for people like Justin who had begun his cancer journey in March of 2020. Justin was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. In 2021, he underwent a stem cell transplant and it failed unfortunately. Justin went into a clinical trial at MD and was finally brought into remission in April 2023. By October, Justin was diagnosed with two new cancers, and by May 2024 he was then diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Justin is continuing his brave journey through cancer! Donating blood gives you a great feeling and, of course, the person getting the blood!
The students had so much fun with helping out with the Blood Drive and met some amazing people and why they do the blood drive. The students even made a sign for the Blood Drive that allowed people who didn’t even think of doing the blood drive to go that day because students were helping out with the Jefferson Community Center. Lizzy Corbett, one of the students who volunteered, says, ” Helping out with the Blood Drive was so much fun and to volunteer for a good purpose made it better.”
