A Truly Special Christmas Tradition

Every year my family gets together for Christmas at my grandparent’s house. As people from my family start coming in appetizers and finger foods take up the table in the dining area. When about an hour goes by all of the food is ready and everybody starts to rush into the kitchen to load their plates with a Christmas dinner. On the tables in the kitchen sit food containers filled with ham, mashed potatoes, rolls, potato casserole, salad, green bean casserole, and many more dishes. As everyone fills in the dinning room, the seats get taken quick, and my family starts to enjoy their meal. We have many conversations among the tables, filled with memories, current news, and even jokes as well. Once everyone is finished with their meal, the desserts are set out in place of the normal food. The desserts that we typically have are pumpkin pie, nut rolls, apricot rolls, cookies, and other miscellaneous items. Then, everyone gets their fill of desserts and prepare for gift giving.

After a while, we start exchanging gifts. Everyone tries to get each person in the family something for Christmas. Some may give cards with something inside, while others give a more traditional present item to others in the family. We then thank everyone who got us gifts and then we move on to some mini Christmas games that we have. One of these games is the saran wrap roll, which is a saran wrap ball filled with gift cards and many other gifts inside. We all take our turns undoing the ball to get whatever is inside and usually all of us end up with something good. We also like to play trivia games or charades as well.

Once it gets later in the evening, we all say our goodbyes to everyone that is leaving and wish them a happy holidays. This family tradition for our Christmas gathering is truly special for everyone in our family.
