Germany, along with many other countries, also celebrate Valentines’ Day. Although the American tradition is to give your significant other flowers, chocolate, or letters resembling hearts or the colors white, pink or red, Germany has different gifts and reasoning.

In Germany, lovers gift each other with gifts resembling pigs. According to them, pigs are a symbol of both love and lust. While more traditionally in the US, chocolate is more of the common food given in Germany ginger cookies are often shared with love messages written in icing.

If you are tired of receiving chocolate, and flowers, gift your lover an item resembling a pig – a stuffed animal or an actual pig, Valentine’s Day is the day of celebrating love. Your family, friends, and lover are all worth gifting to.
