New Years is something that every cultural celebrates in one way or another. Most of the world celebrates on January 1, but some places do celebrate on different days.
On New Year’s Eve, my family follows our own set of “rules,” in a way. My grandmother will begin to cook kielbasa during the day, and she also cooks sauerkraut with it. Every New Year’s Eve we have that meal, and I only recently learned it’s a German tradition for good luck. My dad will buy the crazy foam things, confetti poppers, and a few other fun NYE things for my sister to go crazy with. As it gets closer to midnight, we’re all just spending time with one another, watching the things they have on TV in celebration. We always watch the NYC ball drop, though, and we’ll count down with it, ringing in the new year together.
While my family’s tradition is simple, others may have more extravagant celebrations. I know that at some point, I’d be interested in eating twelve grapes under a table just to see if I can get a tad more luck.
