New Year’s Day is a celebration all throughout the world, where many countries celebrate and do unique traditions you may not do.
To start, a tradition celebrated in Scotland is called First-Footing. When the first person walks through your door after midnight, New Year’s Day, it is believed that that person’s arrival brings good luck for the rest of the year.
Another tradition being Burning Effigies. This takes place in many different countries such as Ecuador and Panama. Burning Effigies is where some people create ‘effigies’ or dolls named “Anos Viejos’ that represent the old year. People burn them at midnight to symbolize leaving the past, and the old year.
