On Thursday, March 21st 2023 Mr. Corbett and Mr. Howard took the students on SADD to PennWest University.
The students left right after homeroom and arrived to the university at 8:45 AM. The first speaker that spoke to the students was Pam O’Donnell, who had lost both her daughter and her husband in a tragic car accident and how it changed her life. Her daughter, who was only 5 at the time, and her husband who was driving their vehicle. The other driver involved has been arrested and is serving 37 years in prison. He had been under the influence of drugs going 55 at a toll plaza, where Pam’s daughter and husband were at a complete stop. The other car hit them sending them into oncoming traffic where they took even more impact causing both of them to die.
Elsa Roberts says, “I really had an amazing time with the speakers and thank them for sharing and opening up with their stories.”
After the speaker there was an interactive game “Think Fast”. The students were in teams with their schools and competed for a chance to win $100 in amazon giftcards for the team. Although we didn’t make it to the top 2 teams the students had fun answering the questions and watching the final 4 people compete. The top 2 teams picked a person to compete where they went on stage behind a podium to answer the questions. There were four spots on the stage and 2 of them were the top 2 teams and the other 2 were challenges the students had won and had a chance to do. Overall, this is one of the best trips for the SADD club and where the students have the most fun.
“This is the best part of SADD and I look forward to this trip every year.” said Alexis Burkett.
