The start of a new school year can mean changes in driving patterns for the surrounding community.
A clearly designated school zone is in place on Jefferson Road, directly in front of Jefferson-Morgan High School. The school zone is active between 7:00 and 8:45 AM and again between 2:30 and 3:50 PM. A flashing light means buses and pedestrians (students walking to or from school) could be within the school zone.
During an active school zone, the maximum speed limit for drivers is 15 mph. When dropping students off at school, it is important for drivers to recall if they have entered an active school zone.
When an active school zone is not in place, the speed limit in front of the school is 35 mph. A driver who reaches this speed during an active school zone would be speed checked at 20 miles over the speed limit. This could result in a fine up to $500, points on a driver’s license, suspension or loss of a driver’s license.
