Students Should Workout at the Field House

The field house provides a good way for students to workout, but more students should utilize it, since it is a free and convenient way to get a workout in. There are many great outcomes to working out.

Safe Teens stated that teenagers should workout for at least an hour every day. The field house provides a great place for teenagers to get an hour of exercise in. There are many positives with working out such as a sharper mind, improved mood, and even clearer skin. People tend to feel refreshed after a good workout.

“Working out helps me feel more relaxed and refreshed,” said Carrington Teasdale, who is a student at Jefferson-Morgan. Teasdale does not use the field house, but said she would if she needed a place to workout.  A poll of ten Jefferson Morgan students showed that 70% of students say they would use the field house. Only 30% of the Jefferson-Morgan students said they would not use the field house.

The field house is not very well advertised to students. Many students do not know when they are allowed to go. Letting students know more about the times they can go to the field house will help students find a time to get a workout in. The field house is a great place to go, so the school should let more students know about it. There are people who open the field house before and after school.

The field house is open to the public in the morning. Jefferson-Morgan alumni, David Blaker said, “The field house is free and has nice equipment. It is also a positive environment to workout in.” Blaker began lifting in 7th grade, and although he graduated in 2016, he still uses it in the morning. He learned about the field house through sports.  Not every high school student plays sports; therefore, students may not know about this opportunity.

In the mornings, only a handful of people go to the field house. The majority of people are Jefferson-Morgan alumni. The field house deserves to be used more often. It is full of nice equipment and people who are always willing to help. It also teaches students a lot about health and fitness.

“I believe the school should push for students to go because it is important to be healthy,” said Teasdale. Teasdale said she does often workout, but that it is hard for her to get to the field house because of practice after school. Another Jefferson-Morgan student, Clayton Juneau agreed, “The field house is not very well advertised, so I have never thought to go.”

Students should be given the ability to learn to properly workout. There are many possibilities to get injured when working out. Lifting or doing any intense workout without knowing how could cause serious problems, so the school should offer to students the ability to learn how. Being taught to workout properly will benefit students tremendously, and keep students happy and healthy. Health Status stated that exercise is not only good for joints, but making your body overall stronger.

There are multiple advantages to being able to exercise, and the field house is a great place to utilize that. The field house is like a hidden treasure for Jefferson-Morgan. The field house is a great place for students to learn how to be healthy.
