Abby Phillips – Athlete Biography
Abbagail Phillips is a senior attending Jefferson Morgan High School and a member of the track team.
For Phillips, there is something special about the events she partakes in. Her events allow her to prove herself and show others what she can do.
“The events I do, are events that prove. I am able to prove to myself and others that the size of the shoe, does not define the athlete’s ability,” explains Phillips.
Although the future is unknown and not always predictable, Phillips will be attending a college that does not offer a track team. She is sad to say she will not be able to continue her career.
“Out of all athletes in this sport, I look up to Michelle Carter,” says Phillips. “She currently holds the American record for shot put and it utterly amazes me.”
Phillips looks up to many people in her life like every other athlete, but she chooses Carter to be her motivation for track.
It is very common for an athlete to be a part of their team or be involved in sports for more than one year. Often times, it is more than even two years at a time.
“This current season will be my fourth year. I wish I could go further, but sadly this is it. After graduation this year, it all comes to an end,” says Phillips.
Her accomplishments include beating her personal record in long jump and getting to know her team better.
Like any sport, Phillips enjoys her time and would do anything to see her team improve. Phillips will always remember her track career and will definitely miss it.
