Upward Bound is a program that was created by TRiO in 1965 to help teenagers be more prepared for college and their future. Jefferson-Morgan and many surrounding schools have become apart of this program as well as other schools across the nation. The schools apart of Upward Bound in the nearby region have been divided into two groups: Fayette and Monongahela. The students apart of Upward Bound meet weekly after school to assess their grades, goals, and thoughts.

The current directors of UB in these two areas are Ms. Ramsey, Ms. Hall, and Mr. McMillan. Ms. Ramsey is the director of all things UB and the highest in status. Ms. Hall is the director of the Monongahela area and works with the Carmichaels, Jefferson-Morgan, Waynesburg Central, and California school districts. Mr. McMillen works with Uniontown, Albert Gallatin, Brownsville, Connellsville, and Laurel Highlands. They do their best to make things efficient and worthwhile.

UB is active throughout the majority of the school year; Jefferson-Morgan’s last scheduled meeting is May 2nd. After the school year concludes, there is an optional summer academy. At this academy, students go to California University for 5 weeks and come back on weekends and for the 4th of July. Students get to experience what on-campus living is like and get to see specifically how Cal U is. Students take beneficial classes, take field trips, and relax in their dorms once the day is over. The summer academy begins in early June and ends mid July.
