Yum! The Caramel Apple! One of many sweet treats that gives a sugared taste of fall! The thing is, what is the history behind the best, sweet-tasting treat the caramel apple?
Caramel apples didn’t become a thing until the 1950s but were created whenever a New Jersey man created the first red candy apple. He sold the candy apples for five cents a pop at his store. Then the caramel apple was invented when a Kraft Foods employee named Dan Walker melted a big stock they had of caramel left over from Halloween and dipped an apple in the caramel. After this invention until the 1960s, they made their first caramel apple dipping machine by a Chicago candy shop worker! Caramel apples don’t have to just have caramel on them they can have chocolate, M&M’s, any sort of nut, etc. So be creative with your caramel apples!
